Stacy McAnulty - 'The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl' - A Children's Book Week Spotlight Event

We’re thrilled to host North Carolina author, Stacy McAnulty! We’ve been hardcore fans of her picture books and chapter books for years now, and the kids’ staff ADORES her latest, The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl. Lucy, a.k.a. Lightning Girl, is a once-struck-by-lightning middle-school math genius with a serious case of OCD. This debut middle grade novel by a North Carolina author has all the elements of a great read - a plucky main character, a secret, new friend drama, understanding adults, and rescued dogs that need to be adopted. A quick read about how everyone has something unique about them that true friends will appreciate. We were rooting for Lightning Girl from page one, and we’re sure you will be too.

We recommend this book for ages 8+. Stacy will sign any of her books purchased at our store.

"This sweet novel has all the elements of a great read - a plucky main character (Lucy, aka Lightning Girl - she was struck by lightning that made her a little OCD and a LOT brilliant at math), a secret (she doesn't want anyone at her new middle school to know she's Lightning Girl), new friend drama, understanding adults, and rescued dogs that need to be adopted. A quick read about how everyone has something unique about them that true friends will appreciate." -Staff Pick from Broche

A lightning strike gave her a super power...but even a super genius can't solve the problem of middle school. This smart and funny novel is perfect for fans of The Fourteenth Goldfish, Rain Reign, and Counting by Sevens.
