Nell Painter - 'Old in Art School' (Reserved Seat/Signing Line Ticket event)

Following her retirement from Princeton University, celebrated historian Dr. Nell Irvin Painter surprised everyone in her life by returning to school--in her sixties--to earn a BFA and MFA in painting. In Old in Art School: A Memoir of Starting Over, she travels from her beloved Newark to the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design; finds meaning in the artists she loves, even as she comes to understand how they may be undervalued; and struggles with the unstable balance between the pursuit of art and the inevitable, sometimes painful demands of a life fully lived. She joins us to weave the tale from academia to art.

Place your order now to claim one of a limited number of reserved seats (one seat per book purchase). General unreserved seating will also be available. Receive a signing line ticket with all QRB purchases of Old.

Our author will be in conversation with Kate Douglas Torrey, a long time friend and retired Director of UNC Press, the first—and only— woman to head the Press since its founding in 1922.
