Independent Bookstore Day
Independent Bookstore Day 2018
It's that time of year again, where we encourage you to and thank you for celebrating your local, independent, community bookstore! We have a day chock-full of events including:
Stop by anytime to:
- Purchase Independent Bookstore Day-specific items.
- See the framed Independent Bookstore Day Proclamation from the City of Raleigh
- Proclaim your own indie bookstore love with markers on craft paper right outside the store
- Win a tote bag of books (must be present to win, winners chosen every hour)
- Participate in a store-wide scavenger hunt (everyone gets a prize!)
- Check out staff picks! That’s one of the best things about an indie store – personalized recommendations in every topic area.
- Eat cookies!
- Visit us online to hear about audio book promotions, receive FREE literary tattoos, and more!
9 am-12 pm: Purr Cup Cat Café
Enjoy a cuppa and pet some kitties! There will be a (contained) area of the store where people are welcome to pet the cats, while an in-store café cart will have coffee and tea available for a donation. The Purr Cup Cat Café is a not-yet-open coffee shop with cats! They do pop-up events around Raleigh to raise money for their café and for the Meow House Cat Rescue, which is where the kitties come from.
9:30-11:30 am: Literary-themed Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest
Show off your summertime sidewalk chalk skills! Sign up as a team or tackle a design yourself. Each contestant or group will receive an assigned area of sidewalk and box of chalk to create their literary-themed masterpiece between 9:30 and 11:30 am. Voting will begin at 12-noon, either online via our Facebook album or in-store. The winner will receive a store gift card! To participate, email Chelsea@quailridgebooks.com.
10:30 am: Special Storytime with Olivia! (costume character)
Enjoy a special Olivia-themed storytime Under the Tree in the Kids Department. Olivia herself will be making an appearance! For children of all ages.
Lemonade, tea, and cookies will be provided all afternoon! In exchange, we welcome donations for the Community Music School.
1-4 pm TAB Recommends & Temporary Tattoos
