Fiction Writing Workshop II

Redbud Writing Project

This class is intended for students who have mastered the basics of fiction, either in our Fiction I class or in other creative writing courses. In this course, we’ll do a deep dive into intermediate and advanced craft topics including psychic and narrative distance, developing your prose and voice, strengthening your structure by diagramming a story, communicating emotion in your work, and playing with and subverting reader expectations. Most importantly, this course will focus on revision: how you can take your work from a rough draft and transform it into a polished story. Students will be expected to write and submit two short stories for workshop during this course. By the end of the six weeks, each student will have ideally produced a revised and polished story that’s ready for submission to a literary journal.
