John Edge - 'The Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South'
Garden & Gun has become one of the most popular and recognized gathering spots for Southern culture. Contributing editor John T. Edge has devoted his career to the study of Southern food and culture and this is the book he was born to write. He joins us on Tuesday, May 30, at 7 pm with The Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South. Food, race, and politics are all on this kitchen table. John is also a columnist for the Oxford American and director of the Southern Foodways Alliance at the University of Mississippi.
John will be in a conversation with Raleigh's own award-winning chef, Ashley Christensen (Poole's Diner)!
“What will stick with most readers are the vignettes about specific chefs, restaurants, food producers, food marketers, politicians, celebrities, and race-based relationships…Without question, this is a book for foodies, but it is also for readers who may be indifferent to the food they consume yet care deeply about regionalism, individual health, and race relations.” —Kirkus (starred review)
