Three friends, different lives, a reunion on Marths’s Vinyard, a 40-year-old mystery. But it’s a Richard Russo book so it’s much more!
Before Lincoln, a successful developer, loving husband, father, and grandfather, decides to sell his family’s beach house he invites three college frinends who shared a graduation weekend there in 1971. Teddy is a religious educator and publisher, and Mickey is a hard-living, aging rocker.
Their “fourth muskateer” Jacy, who all three loved, left at the end of their ‘71 weekend and was never seen again. Her memory is center-stage during this reunion and each man tries to understand exactly what happened to her and to his life.
Richard Russo writes beautiful prose. I found myself stopping to admire phrases while I also was immersed in the story. Just as some authors write insightfully about women, I think Russo does the same for men.— Anne

“This book reads like a literary mystery. Forty years ago, a woman disappeared while at a get-together at Martha’s Vineyard. Now, the four friends who were with her have returned to the scene, still driven by a need to know what happened. This latest story by Richard Russo has all the elements that make him one of the most popular authors today: characters we can relate to, settings that we see in our dreams, and a story both perplexing and satisfying. Fans and new readers alike will enjoy diving in.”
