Staff Reviews

This book provided just the comfort I needed as I enter my third season of the pandemic with winter on the horizon. May uses eloquent language, fables, nature, seasonal holiday rituals and solstice traditions to tell about one portion of her year—September to March—after she experienced a series of difficult life events. Her descriptions of swimming in the ocean in winter were so vivid and yes, even appealing, that I dreamed about it afterward. This book is remarkably relevant to our lives right now, a time when we have been forced to hunker down for months, a state usually reserved for winter. (This book will make a wonderful gift for the holidays.)

“When we all started our own ‘winters’ in March, some of us were more prepared than others. May writes delicately of the struggles of life and the ways we may be able to prepare ourselves for such times, something I feel we all need to learn in order to survive the emotional winter that is a worldwide pandemic. Grab a cup of tea, find a cozy blanket, and burrow into this book of thoughtfulness and comfort.”
