Rachael Ray - Celebrity Chef Comes to Town!
It's shaping up to be one of our big programs of the year: an evening with TV star and celebrity chef Rachael Ray. You know what a dynamo she is from her show. Now Rachael opens up her kitchen with her new book, My Year in Meals (Simon & Schuster $29.99). Just as Rachael is one-of-a-kind, her program is pretty special, too. It's different than our typical events for so many reasons, so even if you're a regular at our many author programs, read below for important details on this one! Check as we get closer to the event, as more information may be added.
Thank you to our co-sponsors, Meredith College's Friends of the Library!
Where: Our event with Rachael Ray will take place at Jones Auditorium at Meredith College. Her book, My Year in Meals, goes on sale November 13. Customers can get a ticket to the event with the purchase of a copy of the book (book comes with free ticket) OR paying $5 for a ticket only. All seats are first come, first serve; all seats at Jones Auditorium are good.
Jones Auditorium is part of Jones Hall on the Meredith College campus. It's address is 3800 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh. Click here for a map of the Meredith College campus.
When: Monday, December 10 at 6 p.m. Doors open for seating at 5 p.m. The lobby will open for book and ticket sales (if any are still available) and “will call” ticket pick ups at 5 p.m.
What: Rachael will be interviewed on stage by Lisa Prince of UNC-TV's Flavor, NC. The interview will be followed by an audience Q&A session. We estimate the total time will be about one hour. There will be no signing line following the program.
For more information on the great NC food behind Lisa Prince's program, click here. Flavor, NC is a television show dedicated to preserving and celebrating NC's agricultural heritage one plate at a time. A little travel, some neighborly conversation, and inspired cooking come together at Flavor, NC.
What if I want a signed book?
Rachael Ray will be signing the books just prior to her program on December 10. The signing will not be open to the public. She will not be personalizing except for a special VIP offer (which has been filled; see details below). You can pre-purchase books and tickets at Quail Ridge Books now. You can pick up books and tickets at the store through Sunday, December 9th, OR you can pick them up at Jones Auditorium on December 10 (signed books will not be available until after the program). Important: If you pick the book up before the event and want to get it signed, you must return it to us by Sunday, December 9. We will give you a reminder notice about that when you pick up the book. You can pick up your ticket and/or book at the store by 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 9 or at the event at Meredith’s Jones Auditorium starting at 5 p.m. on December 10. All seats except the VIP offer will be general admission seating.
What if I want a personalized book?
Rachael won't be personalizing except for a special VIP offer, which has been filled. The first 10 people who bought 5 copies or more will meet with her and get their books personalized at a private reception shortly before the 6 p.m. program.
What if I leave my book for signing? How do I get it back?
We will have a small form with a place for your name and phone number or email so we can keep the books identified. This will go in the book if it is returned to us by December 9 to be signed. If someone decides to pick up his ticket but leave his book, we will fill out that same form and tuck it in the book. That way we know who will pick it up. After Rachael's program, we will have the signed books in the lobby for pick up.
What if I purchase a ticket only, and at the event decide I want a book?
Rachael is signing books before the program. We will have any extra signed copies available for sale in the lobby after the program has concluded. We cannot guarantee that we will have unsold signed books available, but hope to. If you purchase a book in the lobby after the program (assuming there are copies left), it will be at the book price. Unfortunately, we can't deduct the ticket price at that time. We also cannot apply any Readers' Club discount to books purchased at a sale outside the store. So if you THINK you would like a book, we highly recommend purchasing it before the program.
What if I come at 5 p.m. and want to purchase a book or ticket then?
The lobby will open for admission and ticket 'will call' pick up at 5 p.m. If unsold books and tickets are still available, we will have them for sale. We expect to have some books and possibly tickets available then, but can't promise this. It is possible the event will be sold out. We also cannot apply any Readers' Club discount to books purchased at a sale outside the store. If you think you want a book or ticket, we highly recommend purchasing them in advance from our store.
What's this VIP offer you mention?
There will be a VIP reception right before Rachael's program, where the first 10 people who bought 5 or more copies from us can come, meet Rachael, take photos, and have their books personalized. This offer has been filled. They may be accompanied by one additional person. We will reserve seats for all of them in the auditorium. Also, ABC-TV affiliate WTVD (Channel 11) will be giving away 4 copies of the book. The winners of those (and one spouse or friend) are also invited to the VIP signing. No other books will be personalized.
Can I leave other Rachael Ray books for signing?
Rachael will only be signing copies of My Year in Meals, purchased from Quail Ridge Books.
What if I order it through the Quail Ridge Books website?
Orders through our website are the same as coming into the store: if you are in our Readers' Club, your discount applies. If you do order online, we would appreciate your noting in the comments section if you know you won't need a ticket. Unless stated, we will assume you want a ticket with your book.
