Groth was a receptionist at the The New Yorker magazine from 1957-1978. She met great writers, Mad Men types, and bohemians, giving her a unique position to sample from the cultural plate of New York City and beyond, and to figure out how she wanted to fit into that world. This is a great portrait of that place and time, and a fascinating story of a woman during that era finding herself. - Kent
It may be the most mispronounced title of the summer, but it'll be one of the most sought after. “Lush” in every sense of the word: exquisite period details, forbidden love, beautiful NC mountain setting, and, oh yes, horses. Thea's contributions to a family tragedy (slowly revealed over the course of the novel) have altered her present life with a speed and ferocity that leave her unmoored. But it's the profound effect this year of change will have on her future that propels her (and us) along. - Rosemary

CD Bruch and Mendelssohn: Violin Concertos/Beethoven Romances by Philippe Quint
$22.99
SKU: 5414706103623
May pick from Paul Jordan of WCPE: "Quint's rendering of the Bruch and Mendelssohn concertos is pure and vibrant. The addition of the two Beethoven Romances makes this CD irresistable."
It is amazingly original—one of those stories that shows how history can be changed by the smallest choices. Her dazzling writing is witty, sometimes dark, and profound throughout. The scenes of the London Blitz are heart wrenching. - Nancy
Cristina Garcia weaves together the lives of five characters at a hotel in an unnamed Central American country. With its lyrical description and touches of magic (and of course the setting) the prose may faintly echo that of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but Cristina Garcia has crafted a subtle and delightful gem of her own. - Tony
Easy's life is in his friends' hands, and after a two month recovery from an automobile wreck (no accident), Easy is asked to help people in trouble. Easy's friends are fascinating—one (Mouse) is a cold-blooded killer with a big heart (except toward his victims) who will do anything to help his friends. - Nancy
