Khaled Hosseini - Kite Runner Author with And the Mountains Echoed

Khaled Hosseini - with Quail Ridge Books Best-selling author Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner; A Thousand Splendid Suns) brings us And the Mountains Echoed, a passionate tale of the choices love inspires, and how these choices resonate through generations.

Mr. Hosseini is a Goodwill Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Refugee Agency, and the founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a nonprofit which provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.  We are partnering with him to present not just a memorable evening with a remarkable author, but a fundraiser for his very worthwhile charity.  Thank you to our co-sponsors, Meredith College's Friends of the Library!

This program is a bit different from our typical in-store events.  We hope we've anticipated your questions. If not, please call us!

How: The program is also a fundraiser for the Khaled Hosseini Foundation for Afghanistan.  A ticket serves both as admission ticket to the program and reserves you a place in the signing line after the event. So, hold on to your ticket even after you enter the auditorium!  To obtain a ticket, you must purchase And the Mountains Echoed from us.  The book/1 ticket package is $30 (sorry, no discounts may be applied).  You may also purchase a book/2 ticket package for $37.  If additional tickets are desired, an additional book purchase is required.

Where:  Our event will take place at Jones Auditorium at Meredith College.  And the Mountains Echoed (Penguin $28.95) goes on sale May 21.  Customers can get a ticket to the event with the purchase of a copy of the book FROM US.   All seats are first come, first served; all seats at Jones Auditorium are good.  Jones Auditorium is part of Jones Hall on the Meredith College campus. It's address is 3800 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh.  Click here for a map of the Meredith College campus.

When: Saturday, June 15 at 7 p.m.  Doors open for seating at 6 p.m.  The lobby will open for book and ticket sales (if any are still available) and “will call” ticket pick ups at 6 p.m.

What: Khaled Hosseini will be interviewed on stage by Frank Stasio, host of NPR's The State of Things.  We estimate the total time will be about one hour.  There will be a signing line following the program, so hold on to your tickets after admission to the auditorium.  Sorry, Khaled Hosseini will not be personalizing books.

How do signing line tickets work? What does the letter on them mean?
Your ticket is also your admission ticket.  When you purchase a book/ticket package, we reserve a lettered ticket for the signing line with your book.  The earlier a book is purchased, the earlier letter your ticket will have.  Each letter group has a small number of tickets in it, so the line moves fairly quickly. The letter on the ticket corresponds to your place in line - Letter A ticket holders will have their books signed first, then Bs, and so forth.  We suggest purchasing books before the event, even pre-paying before the publication date. Your ticket will be with your book when you pick it up.

What if I come at 6 p.m. and want to purchase a book and ticket then?
The lobby will open for admission and ticket 'will call' pick up at 6 p.m.  If unsold books and tickets are still available, we will have them for sale.  We expect to have some books and tickets available then, but can't promise this. It is possible the event will be sold out.   If you think you want a book or ticket, we highly recommend purchasing them in advance from our store.

What if I decide at the event that I want another book?
We will have any extra signed copies available for sale in the lobby after the program has concluded.  We cannot guarantee that we will have unsold signed books available, but hope to.  If you purchase a book in the lobby after the program (assuming there are copies left), it will be at the book price.  We also cannot apply any Readers' Club discount to books purchased at a sale outside the store.  So if you THINK you would like a book, we highly recommend purchasing it before the program.

Can I bring other Khaled Hosseini books with me to the event for signing?
Khaled Hosseini will sign his back list books brought to the program.  The quantity may be limited to allow time for everyone to get books signed.

Can I leave other Khaled Hosseini books at your store for signing?
Books purchased here may be left for signing.

If I leave my book for signing, how do I get it back?
We will have a small form with a place for your name and phone number or email so we can keep the books identified. This will go in the book, which may be picked up at our store from June 16 on.

Is photography allowed?
Yes, photography is allowed, but not videotaping of the program.

What if I order it through the Quail Ridge Books website?
Orders through our website are the same as coming into the store.  If you are in our Readers' Club, your discount applies if you are purchasing a book without a ticket.  If you do order online, note that a book without ticket is a different item than the book/ticket packages.

What if I just want a copy of And the Mountains Echoed, and don't plan to go to the program?
If you do not want a ticket to the program, you can of course purchase And the Mountains Echoed from us at any time at its retail price ($28.95).  If you are in our Readers' Club, your discount will apply.
