Quail Ridge Books has teamed up with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Triangle Chapter to have a day-long, family-friendly event focused on food and diabetes. This is in support of a QRB staff member, whose family is riding in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, a bicycle ride fundraiser for diabetes research, this October. 10% of the day’s sales will go directly to the JDRF fundraiser for diabetes research.
From 2-3 pm we will feature a program called Food for All: Everyday Cooking for All People (including diabetics.)
Local cookbook authors will be presenting a favorite diabetic-friendly recipe, including samples! There are many misconceptions around food and diabetes. We hope that by featuring these authors and their recipes, we can help people better understand that delicious food is still a reality for everyone, diabetics and non-diabetics alike! A representative from the JDRF Triangle Chapter will also be at this event. Local cookbook authors at the event include: Sandra Gutierrez, Kathy Hester, Bridgette Lacy, Debbie Moose, and Brigid Washington. A booklet of recommended recipes will available at the event for a token donation. Additional booklet contributors include NC-based chefs and cookbook authors Peter Reinhart, Jamie DeMent, and Sheri Castle.
