In 2010, an innovative support group was formed at UNC – Chapel Hill to help fathers whose wives passed away from cancer. The first of its kind, the group let other fathers know they were not alone and offered coping strategies. Now, the first book of its kind shares the challenges and triumphs of seven of these men, as chronicled by the local doctors who started the group, including the latest medical research in grief resolution as well as personal stories of adaptation. Drs. Rosenstein and Yopp join us Thursday, January 11 at 7pm to share The Group: Seven Widowed Fathers Reimagine Life.
They will be joined by group member, Bruce Ham, Raleigh author of Laughter, Tears, and Braids: A Father’s Journey Through Losing His Wife to Cancer.
On a mid-October evening, a group of fathers gathered around a conference table and met each other for the first time. None of the men had ever thought of himself a "support group kind of guy" and each felt entirely out of place. In fact, nothing about their lives felt normal anymore.
