This book club has the potential to become a town meeting. The club's goal is to foster dialog and better understanding between people with different political viewpoints and to provide a safe space for civil discourse on controversial or divisive topics. There will be several moderators whose viewpoints span the political spectrum: left, right and neutral. The book selections will also be chosen to represent issues and viewpoints across the political spectrum. The aim of each discussion is to promote understanding ... “Ah, now I understand how they can think that!” ... rather than convince anyone of a particular point of view. The group plans to meet the first Wednesday of the month at 7 pm. The first session takes place Wednesday, May 3, at 7 pm. The book for discussion is Our Kids by Robert Putnam. We thank all our moderators; Rob Christensen (N&O political columnist) will lead this discussion.
As with all of our in-store book clubs, participants receive a 21% discount on the discussion book; just let us know at the counter when you purchase it.
