We invite your book clubs to meet at our store. We can provide suggestions for reading, if needed. We will reserve a space and have it ready for you according to your meeting schedule. Just let us know. And remember our 21% discount for book club orders that are picked up in one transaction.
Special Book Club Session
We're so thrilled to have Katherine Applegate visit on April 23 for The One and Only Ivan, we're having a book club discussion that night on the Newbery Medal winner. Ivan fans, join us at 5:30 p.m. for a session on Ivan. You'll be psyched to stay for the author's program at 7 p.m.! Ages 8+.
First In Series Book Club
Our "First in Series" book club for kids meets over the summer. We have occasional "special editions" when the opportunity comes up to combine a meeting with an author appearance.
Middle School Girls' Book Club
The Middle School Girls' Book Club meets at our store and is open to the public. Suggested for ages 11+. Members of the book club receive 21% discount on club selections. The group's next selections and meetings are:
- Thursday, April 17 at 5 p.m. for The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- Thursday, May 15 at 5 p.m. for Savvy by Ingrid Law (with the end-of-year pizza party)
The club is taking June and July off - but we bet there will be plenty of beach reading going on.
Teen Writing Group
The QRB Teen Writing Group is continuing with a moderator. The group is recommended for ages 14 and up, due to the maturity of some themes. It consists of high school teens who write stories on varying themes. The group meets every two weeks on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. to read their stories to the group for feedback. There is at least one collaborative storyline, where each member contributes writing for one or more characters. Upcoming meetings are:
- April 16
- April 30
- May 14
- They'll be meeting twice monthly from then on. They plan ahead!
If there is an author event on our main floor, the group will be set up in the back section of our store.
Our very popular summer reading club for young readers ages 5-7 runs July-August. B.I.R.D.S. stands for Beautiful Independent Readers Developing Soon. Each summer's program has a theme. We've traditionally met on Tuesdays from 7—8 p.m., for five weeks. Our own Ms. Linda runs the show, so you know it’s a grand time. Watch for our special guests, too! And, of course, there’s the wrap-up party, and awarding of reading certificates! Children should either have read that week's book OR had it read to them BEFORE each session.
