We invite your book clubs to meet at our store. We can provide suggestions for reading, if needed. We will reserve a space and have it ready for you according to your meeting schedule. Just let us know. And remember our 21% discount for book club orders that are picked up in one transaction.
Our "First in Series" book club for kids has concluded for the summer. But why stop? We have some great authors visiting this fall. Let's meet for the first books in their series, and then stay on for the authors' programs. Here's what we have coming up. Book club would meet at 6 p.m.; author's program starts at 7 p.m.:
- Tuesday, October 21: Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading by Tommy Greenwald
- Wednesday, December 3: The Outcasts: The Brotherband Chronicles #1 by John Flanagan
We'll have more "special editions" when the opportunity comes up to combine a meeting with an author appearance.
Middle School Girls' Book Club
The Middle School Girls' Book Club meets at our store monthly on the third Thursday at 5 p.m. The club is open to the public. Suggested for ages 11+. Members of the book club receive 21% discount on club selections. The club took the summer off, but starts up again on Thursday, September 18, at 5 p.m. with Gordon Korman's Ungifted.
Teen Writing Group
The QRB Teen Writing Group is continuing with a moderator. The group is recommended for ages 14 and up, due to the maturity of some themes. It consists of high school teens who write stories on varying themes. The group meets every two weeks on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. to read their stories to the group for feedback. There is at least one collaborative storyline, where each member contributes writing for one or more characters. Upcoming meetings are:
- August 20
- September 3
- September 17
- They'll be meeting twice monthly from then on. They plan ahead!
The group usually meets in the back section of our store.
Our very popular summer reading club for young readers ages 5-7 runs July-August and has concluded for 2014. B.I.R.D.S. stands for Beautiful Independent Readers Developing Soon. Each summer's program has a theme. Our own Ms. Linda runs the show, so you know it’s a grand time. Watch for our special guests, too! And, of course, there’s the wrap-up party, and awarding of reading certificates! Children should either have read that week's book OR had it read to them BEFORE each session.
