Lead Up to Independent Bookstore Day: A Hunting We Will Go

Independent Bookstore Day (and all its special goodies) arrives April 30, but we have a month of activity leading up to it.  April is the month to celebrate the many indies flourishing in our area.  What's IBOPNCThe Independent Booksellers of Piedmont North Carolina (IBOP*NC) invite everyone to participate in a literary celebration of the strength of our community in an area with these diverse and thriving independent bookstores: The Country Bookshop in Southern Pines, Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill, McIntyre’s Books in Fearrington, Page 158 Books in Wake Forest, Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, Regulator Bookshop and Letters Bookshop both in Durham, and Scuppernong Books in Greensboro.

IBOP*NC is celebrating National Independent Bookstore Day with a Field Guide to the Independent Bookstores of Piedmont NC during April.  The bookstores are encouraging readers to use the field guide to start their Bookstore Life List (similar to a Bird Life List) and travel to each of the bookstores during  April to win prizes. The adventure culminates with a celebration at all of the stores on National Independent Bookstore Day:  Saturday, April 30!

Few regions in North America have a richer book life than central North Carolina. As you migrate through the Piedmont region (and even dip a toe into the Sandhills), the Field Guide will help you note the diversity in habitats that support the thriving varieties of independent bookstores in the central part of our state.

Whether you are a frequent reader or a one-book-a-year kind of person, finding an independent bookstore provides a sense of satisfaction. The point of spotting all the independent bookstores in the month of April is to discover the rich literary diversity of North Carolina’s Independent Bookstores and to share the enjoyment of that discovery with others.

Throughout April, participants can travel to each of the independent stores, pick up a field guide, and get a stamp for dropping by each of the independent bookstores in the NC Piedmont. When you reach four stamps, receive an Independent Booksellers of the NC Piedmont (IBOP*NC) button. With all eight stamps, bookstore explorers also receive an IBOP*NC limited edition logo journal, a hand-selected signed book from one of our favorite North Carolina authors, and will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to their favorite IBOP*NC bookstore.

The Independent Bookstores of Piedmont North Carolina encourage all readers, young and old, to get out into their communities and discover the joys of independent bookstores.
